New Year’s Day walk to Southport
After last year’s epic 18 mile Boxing Day trek from Victory Park to Mill Farm for the AFC Fylde vs Chorley FC clash which raised £2500 for Galloways for the Blind, Friends for You and the Fan Ownership Fund, the Chorley FC Supporters Trust is looking to go one better on New Year’s Day when we tackle our next challenge.
A group of eight walkers have committed to the 21 mile trek from Victory Park to Haig Avenue hopefully culminating in a Magpies victory as we rest our weary limbs and reflect on whether that last glass of egg nog to see in 2018 was actually a good idea or not!
This year, in addition to the Fan Ownership Fund we’re walking on behalf of a couple of local charities: Derian House Children’s Hospice and the Chorley Women’s Centre.
Derian House provides palliative and respite care for children with life shortening illnesses and practical support to families through the highs and lows of the illness and beyond. Currently the centre is providing support to over 300 families.
Chorley Women’s Centre provides emotional support to women experiencing difficult times in their lives (including domestic violence, mental health crises and sexual abuse) and works to improve their self-esteem and confidence through counselling and drop in sessions.
The Trust Board felt that both these local charities were worthy of support as we continue to try and help those less fortunate than ourselves in our town.
